Even if it means calling your wife for a ride home. It just isn’t worth it. Ask me how I know this

I’m gonna ask. Good advice nonetheless.

20 09 for me...and all of the life experience “ don’t do what I did” speeches to my kid [24] and she got one a month ago.

I like beer. So I just live next to where the beer comes from. Besides, walking is good for me and cheaper than parking, gas, and any associated tickets.

Have a seafood joint / bar outside my neighborhood maybe a mile from my house. Thinking this summer it's going to be my walking to choice. Good company, safe walk, walk off the beers.

My local brew pub has a members night, which you can join for $40 a year. My wife buys me a membership for father’s day. So, tonight is a “Regulars night”, with $4.00 pints and $8.00 Growler fill, and free food, which is corned beef, cabbage and potatoes. I get some food a beer. A friend comes in, buys me another beer, we talk cars and I buy another round. Three beers is my absolute limit, as it gives me enough time to digest the beer and get home within a reasonable time of the bars closing. However, I also get two growlers to fill up. They run out of one
1/2 way full, and the bartender says I can have it for free, or she can pitch it and refill with another beer. I can’t say no to free beer, so I split it between me and another regular who is a real hoot to talk too. Long story really long, four beers makes me call my wife to get my ass from the bar, with my 16 year old son driving my car home so it doesn’t sit at the bar all night. Does that explain it?

Called
the wife. She picked me up. My son drove my car home. I can’t afford a DUI in any way, shape or form. I might be stupid sometimes, but I ain’t dumb. But the beer was really, really good.

The brew pub I was at is about a 30 minute walk home. I have made that walk in the summer time. Tonight, it’s a bit cold, so a call to the Mrs. was in order. So safe
and sound with
no DUI’s is the best way to go.

Personally I’d like to see how much DUI charges have dropped since the creation of Uber and such.
Though no better feeling than laying in bed safe.

If I absolutely had too, I’d call AAA. They’d flat bed my car home for free rather than me drive home drunk. Uber is for the rich, Gen X’rs, not me.

That sounds like a pretty fantastic evening. And I’ve definitely taught kids who were told that they had to get parents from fun events once they got a license since the parents did the same for them for years!

They’re pretty easy to get... You can get one here even if you blow a 0.0 (yes, it does actually happen) the officer just have to believe you’re impaired. Now you might ask, “Well that’s a crappy inconvenience, but who’s gonna press charges on that case?” There are ramifications for simply being *arrested* even without a formal criminal charge. The DOT has powers here independent of the criminal case that affect your insurance and license status. Your car is also impounded by law , they won’t let someone drive it away, even another passenger. WA is very strict and one way to bring down the hammer has been to really stick it to you for the arrest, and not the conviction if applicable. I know people who are so far deep in legal fees they just gave up driving because they can’t get out.
No, I’m not excusing anything, but once someone teetering loses their car, they often lose their job, lose their residence, after which the likelihood of them becoming even more of a potential substance abuser skyrockets.

If you have money for the bar you have money for an Uber.

Okay cool, I thought you meant you got a dui or hit someone or something. Good for you for not drunk driving!

two officers at the scene of mine, second guy on the scene told my gf he’d have let me go home and described the arresting officer as the “DUI Gustapo” in the area. I was admittedly and technically drunk, but sometimes they need to consider actual condition vs. a content number because everyone is different. I’ve witnessed my kid drinking, she doesn’t consume much and based on her % I know what condition she was in and she probably should have been sent along. There’s been 2 other instances where I was sent along with a warning to slow down and go home that I was in similar condition to my actual arrest ...but those were long ago and everything is too by the book now.
My business is 100% a mobile operation so I had to hire the attorney that locals with clout and cash hire. He was expensive but worth it. I got lucky, but it also showed the system is extremely flawed. What’s the best way to do it? No idea, but the current way doesn’t work and .08% is nothing.
F or what it’s worth (cue the groans) I run faster, more consistent lap times when I play racing simulators with a few drinks than I do sober. I’ve tested drinking different amounts and played with pacing and found that drinking at a pace like I would if I were having dinner and drinks with friends I run better laps . That’s about 2-3 drinks for around an hour then maybe 1 more over an other hour or so . Drinking at a steady pace for the entire evening obviously made for disastrous results with the noticeable drop off starting around the 3rd drink and rapidly after the 4th. I’m not condoning, but I surely would rather share the road with a guy that had dinner and a few drinks like I described (I’m assuming he pays attention to the road for this arguments sake) than I would with the guy who can’t keep his face out of his phone.
